Public forum at Civil Beat on “The Value of Hawai’i”
Thurs, Aug 5, 5:30–7:30 pm
3465 Waialae Ave, Suite 200 (the Central Pacific Bank building)
Featuring Craig Howes, Jon Osorio, and Chad Blair on politics, government, and Hawaiian issues.
Essays from the book, The Value of Hawai’i, have already generated lively discussion on online news site Honolulu Civil Beat [www.civilbeat.com]. Some issues currently being discussed include the benefits of creating a unicameral legislature, and the impact of globalization on Hawai’i and sovereignty.
The first opportunity to continue this public conversation comes at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 5 at Civil Beat headquarters.
Here’s the link to the online discussion–
Editors Craig Howes and Jonathan Osorio will join Civil Beat’s Chad Blair to talk about their essays in the book (all have been excerpted on the free portion of the Civil Beat website). They’ll also talk about the idea of the book itself and answer questions from people in the audience. The book has the goal of providing “a cluster of starting points for a larger community discussion of Hawaii that should extend beyond the choices of the ballot box this year.”
Free and open to the public, but if you’d like to attend, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org so our hosts know how many guests to plan for.
